By Michelle Smith

There are tons of reasons to learn how to play a guitar. One could want to find ways to relax, add a new creative hobby to their life, or reach out and connect to others in their town or city. When engaging with something as wonderful as music, people can access parts of the brain that might not otherwise be stimulated. Some people may find it to be intimidating to learn a new instrument. However, with a couple simple guidelines, almost anyone can become a wonderful blues guitarist.

Lots of beginning musicians get discouraged because they think they're unable to play an instrument. This simply isn't the case and in reality almost everyone can learn how to play. Remember that the best way to improve at anything, especially music, is to practice consistently. Be sure to set aside a few minutes every day in order to improve at your craft.

Start by purchasing or renting a guitar from your local music shop or even online. You can find several deals on various sites around the web. Make sure that you purchase a guitar that's within your budget, but also of high quality. Many beginners can become discouraged by playing a poor quality instrument. This is because a higher quality instrument will have more room for error, as your fingers can press on the strings more easily.

Many beginners learn by playing simple songs at first and progressing to more difficult ones as they improve. Start by learning to strum a few basic chords, such as G, C, and D. You will be amazed by the number of songs that you will be able to play using these three simple chords.

As you get better, you can start transitioning into other chords as well. Learn all the major chords, as well as the minor ones as well. Then people generally will learn the seventh chords. By using whole chords, minor chords, and seventh chords, you're going to have a wide range of songs you can play.

If you're getting a bit bored at just playing chord progressions, be sure to transition into finger picking too. Lots of beginners may be intimidated, but it isn't really that difficult.. When you start learning how to pick the strings with your fingers, you're going to get a lot better. Your range is going to increase dramatically.

A great way to learn is to study musicians that you like. There are several blues musicians that one can study. Listen to different artists while in the car or even while working in your office. By listening to a wide range of music, you will be training your ear. This will help out immensely as you begin to improve at your instrument.

The most important skill when it comes to becoming a blues guitarist is consistency. Make sure to practice a bit each day. Eventually you're going to be playing all your favorites and impressing friends and family with your new skills. Good luck!
