Banjo Playing Tips For New Learners

By Mary Ross

Music is one of the best things life can offer. This allows people to escape temporarily from all the havoc and chaos brought by the world. In addition, it helps individuals to express themselves in a more detailed way through lyrics and rhymes which makes those people who are listening to it feel the connection and understanding. Lyrics are basically an informal way of communicating to someone without actually talking to them. And music, without instruments are plain boring and rhythm less. There are so many exciting instruments out there and one of which is custom made banjos that is created based on how a musician wants it to look like.

This instrument apparently is considered as versatile compared to most strings because it can play and add a different flavor to any kind of musical style. It would depend on how many strings are there on the banjo a musician is using. Which is why, newbies have to really choose their banjo type based on the type of music they play so it is suitable for their styles.

So, the four stringed banjos are typically being used for a jazzy tune like how Irish do their music. Five string are commonly used on traditional songs because they create a folkish tune that fits perfectly on traditional song. Then, last are six strings which are perfect for those who knew how to play guitar. This basically gives out banjo quality of music but through a guitar like style of playing.

First time banjo user who have been working on other string instruments are most likely fast learners and can work on this effectively. They already possess a flexible fingers so they can work on their speed better than those who do not play strings at all. Anyway, to begin the practice make sure to find enough length between the strings and fingerboard, preferably something comfortable for the musician/

Then they could go ahead and tune the banjo. For those who has no idea on how they can possibly do such thing, do not hesitate to ask help from other people. Or self help instructions and tutorials are always available on web. They could as well buy electronic tuners so they can bring it anywhere and tune their instrument appropriately without hassle at all.

Adjust the body and make oneself comfortable enough to play without any hassle at all. Posture is very important when playing the banjo. Then work on the hands appropriately because this too is the basic fundamental of playing banjos properly.

Then study how to pick, this probably is easy to go through for those who have played guitar before. However, for those who are entirely new to strings, this totally is difficult because the sweeping of fingers on string is painful. So as a tip, use either fingernails or an actual pick to do plucking.

Study the basic rolls or patterns one wish to perform. Again, there are lots of sample videos on the internet that would make it easier for visual learners to learn what they want. Usually the patterns are repetitive so remembering it is not that challenging.

Then, once the basics are mastered, time to challenge oneself more by trying on those hard rolls. This needs several timing method along with proper picking. Practice and enjoy the play to create the best tunes out of it.
