I read all of the reviews and no one mentioned the horrible sound quality. It sounds like the camera was under water.
The LED is amazing. These modes would be great for engagement rings, baby feet and fingers, and pretty much everything. Water got in the camera and damaged it. I would suggest buying a different brand if you want to use it for underwater pictures.
There is so much packed into this point and shoot camera that you've got to sit down for about a half an hour to an hour and learn how to use it. It's not rocket science but there are some things you need to learn how to use. I found out some water drops got inside even it was properly sealed. Also I have to admit the ocean was a kind of rough that day. It is very easy and has worked every time for me. There is a beauty mode, several underwater mode, pets mode, etc. It survived a fall off the car hood @ 20 mph and worked. So I was excited to upgrade to this model for a recent Honduras trip. Called the company and a reputable camera store and both said that once the circuit board gets wet, it needs to be replaced at a cost of at least $150. The company also recommends that it be sent in to have the seal replaced annual at the cost to the consumer. Mine got water damage within the first week from being used in a pool, 5ft deep at the deepest point. My girlfriend's camera received water damage within two weeks from being splashed in the surf. Do NOT buy an Olympus tough. It is truly awful.
My surprise was that, when taking outdoor pictures, the image quality is excellent. The wide angle allows you to take great scenic photos.
I'll be posting some pictures that I took with this camera, so that you can see the quality yourself. Back in 2006 I started carrying one of the original Olympus Tough 7 MP cameras with me in Iraq. The camera takes mediocre pictures. The day date has to be set every time the battery is changed. This camera is very easy to use with an easy set-up. I have not tried it under water yet but with this camera I'm not scared to let my little children run around taking picture with a fear of them dropping and breaking my camera.
There is a funny sound emitted on playback. I read a review of the 8010 and it had the same issue.
