Classic Family Portrait With Every Family Member

By Don Wong

It seems a lot easier to do things if the whole family is present. They make holiday celebrations more fun, and they offer reassurance during difficult times. But there are things that seem more hard to do with them. Shooting a family picture is one of those things. They may be fun, but family members make up the most boisterous of crowds when everyone gets together. This makes it hard for a photographer to take their picture as a group. But taking a family portrait is really important for every generation because it's a valuable heirloom.

Plan it thoroughly, that's the key to taking a family portrait, especially if you have a big family. It's vital that the family is complete in the photo so you would need to notify everyone the schedule in advance. Otherwise, some aunts or uncles might not be able to make it in short notice. If there's a family celebration coming up, like the anniversary or birthday of the head of the family or the grandparents, you can hold the pictorial session on the same day. Everybody would have made time for the party so there is a big chance that they would be there. And it's also likely that everyone will be in a cheerful mood, which is perfect for the photo.

For a Classic family portrait, ask everyone to dress in their best dress or suit. You can also ask them for suggestions for a themed portrait photography. Perhaps you can all don national costumes or dress in a particular colour. Though there are no rules on what the family should wear during their portrait photo shoot, a lot of families opt to dress in matching clothes to show that they are united as a family. Furthermore, dressing up in costume can be exciting for the whole family.

Family portraits can be captured in a photographer's studio or just about anywhere else, but remember that seniors and youngsters will be there in the photo shoot so it's important to make the setting comfortable for everybody. Hold the photo shoot before doing any activity so everybody still looks fresh in the picture.

Even though everyone is dressed in similar attire or is told to smile at the same time, the personality of the family members will still shine through in the photo. So don't worry if some members didn't smile as impeccably as the others or even forgot to smile in the picture. After all, a family portrait is perfect when everyone's uniqueness comes out.
