Neil Diamond Tribute Bands Are Awesome

By Katrina Wheeler

It is not a shock that Neil Diamond tribute bands are very popular. It is most likely because the singer has a large fan base. Neil Diamond is perhaps one of the most recognized singers all the way from the sixties to the new millennium.

The music is considered adult contemporary. He started his career over five decades ago and still plays today. Neil Diamond has been conducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has hit the adult contemporary billboard list as nearly as many times as Barbara Streisand and Elton John. The most popular songs by him are America, If You Know What I Mean and You Don't Bring Me Flowers.

What this type of band does is play homage to a musician. It is not required that the way they play is a replication. This is because a tribute is a homage although many people especially other musicians might see it as a copycat move.

Neil Diamond's music can be considered among the more easy to play since most of the songs use only a guitar a voice. The band then can have only one member. His sound is relatively simple sixties' pop with a mellow guitar. Some of his songs use more instruments which can require more members and there is his voice which is most important and very melodious.

A tribute band of any kind does not have to replicate the music exactly. Some fans might even find the lack of interpretations disappointing. A band can enhance certain sounds of the originals or even delete some lyrics or notes. For example a newly spun song can include instruments not previously implicated.

Whatever direction it takes, the members are expected to know every song by the artist and not just the popular ones. They can expect to be in front of an audience who are hardcore fans and who have tired of the repeated tracks. They may prefer more esoteric numbers. Also they might not appreciate an newly formatted track. It is up to the musician to gauge the atmosphere of the audience.

This is a great way to make money. This is true specifically for those who love to play music but do not know how to write or make up new songs. On the other hand many striving musicians might use this as a way to make money to support their own musical careers.

Of course bands that play homage to another's music should not expect to play stadium or make nearly as much as the original artist. There are other venues such as bar or restaurants who would be glad to hire them. There is also the opportunity of playing background to live karaoke but the band must know a large array of music to do this. A Neil Diamond tribute bands might be especially easy to get hired since his music is widely known but this can also be a problem. His popularity has surely sprung up many tribute bands. It is best to know how to replicate his songs exactly as well as being able to do imaginative takes.
