How To Choose Wedding Bands In South Florida For Your Celebration

By Marie Powell

If you are getting married and are planning to have a reception, chances are you will want music for people to dance to and to set the tone for your special day. There are many wedding bands in South Florida that can help you create the ambience you are looking for. Here are some tips on how you can find the right one for your needs.

It is a good idea to set a rough budget before looking at bands. Keep in mind that many musical groups will charge an hourly fee and, if it is a larger group, this can quickly add up. Factors that can affect the price include how many band members you are hiring and how many hours they will be playing. If they have to travel to your event there may also be mileage that you will need to pay.

Before you start your search for South Florida bands, you need to make a few decisions other than how much you want to pay. You should think about when the band will play. Some want live music during the ceremony and the meal but want a DJ afterwards. Other couples will want live music throughout the evening.

The venue you book will affect which band you should choose. A smaller group will be best suited to a more intimate venue. If you pick a large club or reception hall, the sound from a small musical group may fall flat or not be full enough. A large group in a small area will mean that there may be unwanted volume issues.

Keep in mind that the same volume will not work all evening. You should make sure that the group you choose can play more quietly during dinner so that people can talk. There is nothing worse than trying to chat during dinner and finding yourself drowned out by loud music. Later, when everyone is finished eating, then your band can play more loudly so that people can dance.

Your ideal music selection will also affect which group you hire. If you have specific songs you want played, make sure they can do so. If you want a specific style of music played, you should make sure the group you book is familiar with that genre so that it sounds as good as possible. Be as specific as you can when you talk to a possible band about your music preferences. That way there are no misunderstandings or issues.

Finding names of groups is not difficult. If you are working with a wedding planner they will often have names of groups they have worked with in the past. You can also find potential groups by speaking to reception venues and other couples who have been married recently. Be sure to ask who they liked and who they avoided using.

Once you have a list of potential names, contacting the bands themselves is a good idea. Interviewing them as well as listening to a demo tape will help you find the right band for your needs. Make sure to ask how many people will be performing, what fees you are looking at being charged and even whether the band members on the demo are the ones who will perform at your reception. That way you will reduce the chances of an unwanted surprise on your special day.
