Music Video Submission And Independent Music Awards

By Christopher Allen

Designers, singer-songwriters and bands used to have to put a lot of hard work, time and effort into becoming well known. Now, with the ability to provide a music video submission to websites such as YouTube, Facebook Live, and others, this is no longer the case. In fact, when having a quality video, artists can also enter contests such as the Independent Music Awards.

In most cases, the best of the best will not only be nominated for an award but will most likely get attention of promoters. For, whether or not an artist wins an award, there are many who gain the attention of studios and promoters. With work being put before judges ranging from Tom Waits and Aimee Man to Zooey Deschanel and Pete Wentz, these and other notable musicians will no doubt be taking notice.

With all the clutter on the airwaves and the Internet, it is often hard to get the attention of promoters and studios. As such, independent artists and labels around the world now submit to the IMA on an annual basis. The awards are currently accepting submissions on the IMA website. Before submitting, it is important to review all submissions to assure visual clarity and sound quality. For, unless an entry has clear picture and sound, it will most likely be rejected upon receipt.

There are a number of different genres to which artists can submit work on the IMA website. While most are related to album, song and vocals, there are also categories for album designers, lyricists, singer-songwriters and video producers. Whereas, for the first time, artists can enter longer format videos which include more than one song.

For those only wanting to submit a video to share online outside the IMA website, there are several sites which now allow individual submissions. These sites range from BET to YouTube and beyond. Whether submitting a single video, or an entire live show, there are many sites which welcome these submissions.

Earning an IMA can often assist artists in building a successful career. For, the organization promotes winners and nominees to over fifty million fans on an annual basis. In addition, work by these artists are often submitted to online broadcast media, industry gatekeepers, talent buyers, programmers and music supervisors.

Promoters, The Planetary Group and HIP Video Promo, also work to assist artists in becoming more well known. For, each of these groups has access to performance opportunities, distribution and promotion. As such, those submitting work often have a better chance of building a fan base while possibly gaining support when it comes to booking shows and working in a studio.

When submitting to the IMA, even artists working for social change have a chance of winning an award. For example, these artists can submit albums and songs into the Social Action album and song categories. While other artists can submit to genres including Live Album, Music Video, Gig Poster, Concept Album Love Song and Cover Song just to name a few.
