The Budget Canon PowerShot A2200

By Jill Kellie

The Canon PowerShot A2200 is a beginners level budget model compact camera with excellent image quality. It is very simple to use and lightweight. It is fitted with a 14MP sensor a range of excellent features for the price.

The camera is nicely laid out and its ergonomics make it very comfortable to hold. It has a mode dial on the top of the camera, whereas most entry level compact camera modes need to accessed via the menus on the rear LCD. This makes using the camera much faster. The LCD is 2.7 inches in size and is very good even in bright sunlight.

The lens features a 4X optical zoom, which is perfect for zooming in on distant subjects. The camera also has flash for photographing in low lighting conditions.

The camera has numerous shooting modes, including daylight, cloudy, indoors and others. This way the camera will choose the correct exposure, white balance, ISO and use flash when necessary. This creates sharp images that correct colors and no blur. The camera's discrete mode will turn off all sounds so that the camera will not disturb anyone or attract attention.

There is also a clever face detection function on the camera, which will focus on faces making portraits and group photos look sharp. The camera can even detect a smile and not take the photograph until the smile is detected. Of course this function is optional and can be switched on or off when needed. The easy mode on the camera provides guidance to novice photographers so it is easy to capture fantastic moments without a huge understanding of photography.

It is possible to shoot at a range of different resolutions, so you can save space on the memory card. These are 0.3 megapixels, 2 megapixels, 7 megapixels and 14 megapixels. There is also a panoramic option at 10 megapixels, which is ideal for landscape images.

Like most digital cameras the Canon PowerShot A2200 can record video. The video option can record in high definition at 720 pixels. Being a budget model the video is not very advanced and cannot use the optical use while recording. However, it is more than suitable for most applications. This camera is an excellent entry level camera for those on a budget or not requiring any advanced capabilities. The camera can capture extremely detailed images without needing to know a lot about photography.
