Things That Make Destination Weddings Different From Elopements

By Joshua Lynn

In a nutshell, destination wedding is a type of wedding that is held somewhere out of town. Some bridal couples even opt for a secluded beach as the venue for their wedding, where only a few selected friends and relatives are in attendance. This is probably the reason why some people can't help but think of this kind of wedding as a fancy elopement.

That kind of assumption however is far from true. Destination weddings and elopements are two different types of wedding and their only likeness lie on the need to conduct the wedding out of town.

Wedding destinations require more time for the planning of the event. Bridal couples that choose this kind of wedding are therefore expected to do a lot of research, make many phonecalls, browse many websites and do comparisons to make sure that they end up with reasonable decisions.

In contrast, elopements are often spur-of-the-moment, whirlwind affairs. Hence, the main concern of couples that have eloped is to tie the knot as soon as possible. They do this by looking for places where getting marriage-license requirements is easy.

It goes without saying that planning a destination wedding require more effort. Bridal couples that are preparing for their destination wedding will have to deal with a lot of vendors and make decisions about certain wedding elements such as flowers, pictures, wedding dress, wedding cake, music for the ceremony and reception. In elopements the wedding can be conducted even without the presence of the said elements.

Elopements are to some extent secretive, too. Aside from the fact that couples that have eloped don't usually announce their intentions, the wedding wedding is also usually a small ceremony because it involves only the bride and the groom.

But if a couple don't have to keep their upcoming wedding a secret from anyone and they are holding it somewhere out-of-town, then their choice is clear: they will have a destination wedding.

Of course, a destination wedding will not be complete without hiring a wedding photographer. A destination wedding photographer will help couples capture the significant moments of their wedding and the splendor of the location as well. Bridal couples can consider hiring a photojournalist that specializes in destination wedding photography especially if they want their wedding photos to be more of candid, natural-looking and minute-moment shots.
