Information On The Various Kinds Of DJs

By Kimberly Graham

The term disc jockey is often abbreviated as DJ. Deejay and D. J are the other term and abbreviation used respectively. These professionals specialize in mixing and playing recorded music to audiences over the radio or live. The use of the term was initially limited to gramophone records. However, it has evolved ever since to include all types of digital as well as analogue music sources. Some of the best DJs in the United States are located in Naples, FL.

Modern deejays are of many different types. The major types are club/bar deejays, performer/guest deejays, mobile/wedding deejays, and radio deejays. Each kind of DJ serves a different audience, although audiences are not strictly defined. Besides mixing music to be broadcast to audiences at the spot, these professionals also make mixes that are meant to be recorded for distribution and sale later.

Radio was the origin of the concept of DJ. Radio personalities of deejays work to introduce, play, and mix music to radio audiences over digital, internet, AM, and FM radio stations. They also promote artists and their work in the music industry. Radio stations are usually partially specific in the genre of music they play, which appeals to specific crowds. That has promoted the popularity of some music genres than others.

Bar/club deejays work at night most of the time. They serve audiences in bars and clubs among other venues. They are required to serve the interests of the people, but paying music that they want. That is the reason different clubs are known for playing different genres of music. A good deejay keeps people dancing all night long. Stadiums, parties, and discotheques are the other places they work.

Wedding or mobile deejays often carry around a portable sound system and travel to various events to play and mix music. While working, they are required to accept requests the audience makes. One may sometimes need to repeal the whole playlist and adopt a new one presented by the audience. Being prepared with playlists to suit various audiences and events is a great idea.

Mobile deejays often act as master of ceremonies too. Here, one should be comfortable speaking to audiences over public address systems. Mobile deejays are often required to call upon the audience to focus their attention at different events happening at the function. One may need to know what is composed on the agenda of the day so as to be prepared to handle the day. Good communication skills are required for success.

Modern deejays make use of a wide variety of equipment in their business. Some powerful systems have comes up as a result of technological developments, making life more convenient and easier for deejays. Equipment used by deejays is often able to simultaneously play music from multiple sources.

Playing two music sources simultaneously makes it possible to mix the music. It also makes it possible to transition between recordings in a seamless manner. It takes a lot of practice and experience to master the use of all the pieces of equipment modern deejays use.
