By Carina Helen Sanchez

By taking up a hobby like photography, you can rid yourself of stress. By taking pictures, or seeing photographs you enjoy, you can take time out to see things you may not experience. As the saying goes, pictures are worth thousands of words.

Keep a "photo diary" while taking pictures. When you look at your hundreds of shot, it could be difficult to remember where they were taken or your feelings at that time. Eventually, you may want to create a scrapbook and include some of the descriptive information along with the pictures.

Special filters are really extensions of your camera's lens. The screw directly to the lens and provide a variety of effects. An ultraviolet light (UV) filter is perhaps the most common type of filter. It helps protect your lens from harm done by direct sunlight. This prevents any damages if you drop your lens.

Make your camera one of the tools in your arsenal as you attempt to get good pictures. Use a shallower depth of field to blur the background and focus attention on the subject of the photograph.

You need good equipment if you intend to really get into photography. Some photographers become brand loyalists for this reason. There are professional photographers that like certain expensive name brands, but use the brand that works for you. Don't necessarily pay attention to labels.

Take time for posing your subject! If your pictures of events and people are always candid or surprise shots, they probably aren't giving you the results you were hoping for. Doing so helps to give you a perfect picture.

One strategy to develop a creative eye is to use limitation. For example, set a goal for the day to only shoot images that represent a single concept, such as "sweet." One way to improve technique in photography is to photograph the same object or scene over and over again. You can use these limitations to make you think outside the usual parameters.

It is important in photography that the art of camera holding is learned. By learning how to properly hold a camera, you will be able to produce crisp, clear images. Keep the arms close to the side of your body and support the lens of the camera with the hand that is less dominate.

In your minds eye, picture the viewfinder as being segmented into nine equal parts, three horizontal and three vertical, like a tic-tac-toe board. Your subject should fall on the intersection of these lines for the most interesting look.

In the photography world there are a lot of things you can do to take better pictures. Not all photography methods work well for everyone, and finding the right one can make all the difference. Hopefully, these tips provide a starting point as you compose your own photos.
