By Dale Peck

The pawn shops, local music stores and garage sales are among the many places where vintage sound amps are often sold. Still, there may be plenty of things that must be considered and applied in shopping for such to prevent making a wrong choice. There are different considerations that must be reckoned on to pick something that is still working well and is also functional.

A good way to tell what a certain amp sounds like is by playing your guitar through such. It would be best to use your instrument because you are familiar of it already and for you to have no difficulties as you try to assess it. Make sure that you are working with comfort since you should have known which could be used still.

If you are still a beginner and you are not that confident though, you can always ask somebody from the store to assist you. The critical part is how to compare the sounds so do the best that you can get a good comparison. However, you should evaluate your needs first before anything else.

The wattage of all these amplifiers are often the basis for its ratings rather than its physical size. A particular harmonic distortions that are excellent for any studio practice is usually created by a low wattage of tube amplifier. Higher volume is often distorted in a high wattage of tube amplifier that will need a creative mixing particularly in some live instances.

The wattage could have an effect on the actual or perceived volume of any sound. Usually, it would take about ten times of the wattage just to double their volume. Yet, the cost might be dependent of the quality and design of the components. The high watt amp might be affordable than the low ones.

Be sure that you understand everything that defines its entire tone. There are many things that can determine the quality of the amplifier. These may include the preamp tubes, wood material that is used for the cabinet, type of speaker cones, the cables, the guitar and the resistance of the speakers.

The cabinet or head and the combo are among the two primary categories that are available. Electronics and different speakers are usually combined in a specific package for the combination amplifier. Weight problems are generally solved by just separating the head and the speaker cabinet for the cabinet or head arrangements.

Whenever you would be purchasing any tube amp, try not to abuse it physically. Typically, those transistor units are made to carry loads of punishments, yet the tube amps could be very delicate. If you would be playing any hard rock metal, it would be great to purchase a smaller unit that produces a brilliant tone than purchasing a bigger or loud one.

There are some music stores that will suggest the beginners a loud one that has loads of effects. Be sure that you will not get fooled for that. Always use your ears to choose the right vintage sound amps that will produce the tone that you will really love for you to avoid spending your money over unnecessary ones.
