Guide to Barcelona Attractions

By Becky Padmore

Barcelona is a city, located directly on the northeastern Mediterranean coast of Spain, has a rich history dating back at least 2,000 years. Now a trendy holiday spot it has everything to offer from fine cuisine, great shops and a lively culture. Now redeveloped (a project which started in 1992) the city has a good man-made beach, lots of palm tree lined boulevards and a chic port area.

* The Picasso Museum is Barcelona's most popular museum with over a million annual visitors. It has a large collection from this famous artist and shouldn't be missed.

* Park Guell is a pretty garden complex filled with some unique architecture. It's great for a romantic stroll.

* The famous La Sagrada Familia the massive catholic church still under construction from 1882! It's still impressive although not finished.

*The fabulous Batllo House designed by Antoni Gaudi is an extraordinary sight, it seems like the designer wanted to avoid straight lines at all costs!

* Also make sure you visit Camp Nou (football stadium) because it's huge and very impressive and also because it's world famous. Even if football's not your thing you will still enjoy the tour round.

*If you are visiting the city as a family good places to try are the Tibidabo Amusement Park, the IMAX cinema and the fabulous Magic Fountain of Montjuic.

* You also must take a stroll down the lively Las Ramblas filled with wonderful street performers and a great atmosphere at all times of the day.

*If you are looking for a good place to eat out or have a drink, try the Olympic port and you'll be spoilt for choice! A casino and beach can also be found here.

Tips for getting around - Barcelona is a large city, it's most likely that you will need to use public transport, the trains are very easy to use and reasonably priced and the bus tours are also pretty good and cover most attractions. If you do decide to try this great city be sure to try all types of Tapas and drink plenty of Sangria, enjoy!
