The Best Locations For A Successful Film Shoot

Finding the perfect setting for your photo shoot, commercial or film project can be a daunting task. You need to find a space large enough to accommodate your actors, staff, and equipment while still offering an attractive space to film.

When choosing your location, lighting should always be on your mind. Lighting can be tightly controlled in a studio setting, but natural light provides a more natural finished product. Whenever possible, try to find a space with plenty of natural light. It is obviously harder to control, but in the end you and your clients will probably be happier with the results.

If you do choose a studio, make sure your lighting crew is up to the challenge. Go in before the shoot and set up lights and take film to see what the finished product will look like. Give yourself time to adjust and readjust before the shoot, so that you aren't scrambling on the day of your project.

Outdoor locations can be tricky, but if it is a setting you really want just make sure you are prepared. There is no room for error when working outside, so stay organized and have your staff there on time and ready to go. If your location is owned by the city, such as a park, be sure to have copies of all the paperwork you filled out nearby just in case someone asks to see it. Also, make sure your clean-up crew does an amazing job, whether you are in privately owned or publically owned acreage.

Your best bet is to find an indoor location that offers an abundance of natural light, such as city loft space. If you can find one with plenty of windows and space, chances are you the natural ambiance of the space will serve as a great setting for your shoot.

When you choose a loft, try to find one that offers not only a huge main area with plenty of shooting options, but also one with excellent architectural details, such as wood floors, exposed brick, high ceilings and maybe even a wall of windows.
